Dunnies and Loos

What many people, especially women, don't understand is  you can learn a lot at a urinal. In fact, I contend most political and business deals are conducted while men relieve themselves. So my frequent stops have a dual purpose, biological and social.

You won't find it in travel brochures, but New Zealanders are justifiably proud of their public toilets, called "dunnies and loos". A "dunny" is what we would call an "Outhouse" and they come in "thunderbox" and "deepdrop" configurations. A "loo" is the flush-type of the modern age. It took me a while to appreciate that each of my rest stops happened in a distinctively building, both interior and exterior. Please excuse me if the most famous and award winning public toilet located at Kawakawa is not photographed. The majority of my fellow travelers did not think it was worth a side trip.

Below is only a small sample of the many loos/toilets I visited. For additional information you can consult more authoritative sources than I.
